Location. Built in 1998 in a typically Portuguese villa style and set by gardens with sea views, the Quintinha de Sao Joao is a family run hotel located one kilometre from the centre of Madeira's first city, Funchal. Madeira Airport is 23 kilometres from the hotel, with an approximate driving time of 20 minutes.

Hotel Features. The Hotel Quintinha is surrounded by gardens with mature trees, and the terrace features a heated outdoor swimming pool complete with a bar operated on the honesty principle. The hotel also houses fitness equipment and a sauna. Multilingual staff at the 24 hour front desk can provide room service and offer advice on Madeira's sights and attractions. Other amenities include public wireless Internet access (surcharge), a dry cleaning service and laundry facilities, and babysitting and childcare services are available on request. Complimentary garage parking is available on site.

The Restaurant a Morghadinha serves regional and Goan specialities and international fare in a contemporary setting. Bar Vasco da Gama serves a lunchtime a la carte menu and afternoon tea including homemade scones, sandwiches, cake and the hotel's own blend of tea. It also hosts live piano music and boasts magnificent sea views.

Guestrooms. The 43 guestrooms over four floors are defined by reproduction antique furniture, traditional Madeiran embroidery and light decor. Expert Tip. For fantastic views of Madeira, take a trip in the 30 person balloon, 1.5 kilometres from the hotel, which ascends to a height of 150 metres above the Funchal Marina. The Monte Palace Tropical Gardens are six kilometres away.
